Description

This wiring diagram provides a clear, beginner-friendly explanation of how to correctly wire the Renogy 3000W PCL Series inverter charger so that RCD protection functions correctly in a campervan or motorhome.

This diagram details the AC side of the system only — including mains hook-up input and inverter AC output. It does not include DC battery wiring.

The Renogy inverter charger has a floating AC output. Without a correctly installed neutral–earth (N–E) bond, an RCD will not operate properly when running on inverter power. This means that although appliances may appear to work normally, fault conditions and earth leakage currents may go undetected.

This wiring diagram shows how to correctly implement the N–E bond and configure the AC consumer unit so that RCD protection functions as intended when using inverter power.

The installation principles align with BS 7671 (including Section 721) and IEC 60364, making it suitable for UK and EU-compliant campervan electrical systems.

Is This Diagram Right for My Van?

YES – this diagram is suitable if:

  • You are installing a Renogy 3000W PCL inverter charger
  • You plan to run socket circuits from the inverter’s AC output
  • You will be plugging in Class I appliances (metal-cased appliances requiring an earth)
  • You want your RCD to function correctly when running on inverter power
  • You are building a UK or EU-compliant AC electrical system

NOT SUITABLE – this diagram is not for you if:

  • You are looking for DC battery wiring guidance
  • Your installation is outside the UK or EU regulatory framework

Further Information & Safety Notes

  • If you plan to wire socket circuits from the inverter AC output and/or plug in Class I appliances (such as kettles, toasters, induction hobs, or other metal-cased devices), you must have RCD protection on the inverter AC output.
  • The Renogy inverter charger output is floating. Without a neutral–earth bond, the RCD will not function correctly.
  • Without an N-E bond, faulty appliances or earth-leakage faults may go undetected, creating a serious risk of electric shock.
  • Bonding cables, as detailed in this wiring diagram, must be installed for safety and regulatory compliance purposes.

Mandatory Testing Requirement
After installation, you must test all AC socket outlets using a suitable RCD socket tester to confirm that the RCD operates correctly under fault conditions. This simple test could prevent serious injury or save your life.

Always follow manufacturer instructions and ensure AC work is carried out competently.

Inverter Compatibility Notice
This wiring diagram has been designed specifically for the Renogy 3000W PCL Series inverter charger.

  • Other inverter charger brands may include an internal neutral–earth bond.
  • Some models may not be compatible with the addition of an external N–E bond.
  • Always confirm manufacturer requirements before installation.

Further Reassurance – Video Walkthrough
For additional reassurance, you can watch a detailed video walkthrough explaining:

Not Sure This Diagram Is Right for Your Van?

Inverter charger installations combine mains hook-up, inverter output, and protective devices — which can be confusing if you’re new to AC systems.

If you’re unsure whether your inverter charger, consumer unit, or bonding arrangement is compatible with this wiring diagram, e-mail me before purchasing.

I can:

  • Confirm whether this diagram suits your AC setup
  • Explain neutral–earth bonding in plain English
  • Advise if a bespoke wiring diagram would be more appropriate

This ensures your AC system is not only functional but also safe.
